biolitec AG achieved consolidated revenue of Euro 6.2 million for the first three months of the fiscal year 2009/2010 - EBIT rises to Euro 0.63 million

Jena, November 30th, 2009 – biolitec AG, Jena, listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt stock exchange (ISIN DE0005213409), realized a consolidated revenue of Euro 6.2 million for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2009/2010. The sales revenue, according to expectation, amounted slightly below the revenue for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2008/2009. In Q1 of the fiscal year 2009/2010 some cost saving capabilities became visible in the operating profit and the figures, which have been realized already in the last six month of the past fiscal year.

The gross profit amounted to Euro 4.5 million (last fiscal year: Euro 5.2 million) and EBIT amounted to Euro 0.63 million (previous year: Euro 0.51 million). R&D expenditures for the first three months of the fiscal year 2009/2010 of Euro 0.65 million (about 10% of sales) compared to the previous year (Euro 1,05 million) have been reduced substantially, but remained on the required level to ensure the groups’ long term growth and profitability. Distribution costs also could have been reduced significantly to Euro 2.1 million compared to Euro 2.95 million in the last year’s period.

The revenue posted by the laser segment of Euro 1.3 million in Q1 was lower than in the prior year (Euro 2.4 million) mainly due to the investment restraint. The fiber optics and laser probes segment contributed Euro 4.7 million to the group’s total revenue and exceeds the previous year’s level, which is a sign of a persistent good and increasing number of treatments.

Mainstays of sales are the BPH laser treatment LIFE™ and the endoluminal laser treatment of veins (ELVeS™).

biolitec AG’s major revenues were again generated in Europe and North America. With Euro 2.75 million, sales in North America were on previous year’s level, contributing 44% of total sales. European sales amounted to Euro 2.54 million (previous year: Euro 3.7 million), in Asia and ROW biolitec was able to slighty increase revenues to Euro 0.9 million. biolitec AG expects sales growth to pick up during the fiscal year, if the propensity to invest again rises. Due to the improved cost structure that way, compared to the previous year, the profit shall increase.

With HeLP™ (Haemorrhoid Laser Procedure), a procedure for the atrophy of haemorrhoidal arteries, a minimally invasive and secure intervention (applied for a patent of biolitec) now is possible. By means of one-way probes and selective laser energy and fiber optics systems, haemorrhoidal arteries can be identified and with the help of photocoagulation the haemorrhoids can be shrinked. Because that is an essential innovation for the treatment of a widespread disease, biolitec sees in it a considerable sales potential for the next fiscal years.

Due to the staff reduction and the reduced costs in total, inventories and working capital will further decrease in the coming quarters and the cash holdings will increase further.
